Sitting on the hard wooden bed inside her home, Who Met reflects on the most recent years of her life lived in rural Cambodia.

Words that describe the atrocities and deep hurt experienced during the Pol Pot regime remain unuttered. At seventy years of age Who Met, like other women her age should be sitting in the Buddhist pagoda in her village, Phum Krus in Kampong Chhnang province.

But things are so different for Who Met now.

First told about Jesus by her granddaughter Srey Liak, Who Met now experiences the freedom and peace that comes from a growing relationship with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Baptised into God’s family in 2011 Who Met talks about the early criticism and taunts she faced from her peers due to her changed ways.

It’s with joy that Who Met shares that daily many of her widowed friends now join her and the impoverished children in the village for a hearty meal of rice and soup lovingly prepared by the staff of the Life Centre (Good Shepherd Lutheran Church) and followed up with bible study and warm fellowship.

Granddaughter Srey Liak has since moved to the Rainbow student hostel in Phnom Penh where she lives while studying theology to fulfil her calling to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the people of Cambodia.

Stories abound in the new and emerging Lutheran Church in Cambodia of the lives transformed by the message of Jesus.
