This year St Martins Lutheran College, Mount Gambier had its second Horas Day to raise money to support SD HKI 3, our partner school in Permatangsinatar, Indonesia. SD HKI 3 is a small primary school which has students in years 1-6.

‘Horas Horas’ is a common saying used in the Batak Indonesian region meaning welcome and is said with genuine gusto and delight. It was with gusto and delight that the students and staff at St Martins swapped their blue uniform for casual clothes in the colours of red/black/white, as per traditional Batak Indonesian dress. In doing so, donations were made and together with funds from a special pop up cupcake stall run by Year 10 Food and Hospitality students, a total of just over $1000 was raised.

This was a wonderful contribution by staff and students and demonstrated their care and compassion for our dear friends in Indonesia. The staff and students of SD HKI 3 are often in our school prayers and we especially pray that they soon can be back together teaching and learning, and that our donation and ongoing prayers will bring many blessings to this very special little community.

The need is still great for the teachers in Lutheran schools in Indonesia, as a second wave of COVID-19 is going through the country.

Please contact LCA International Mission if you would like to make a donation, supporting this need which is so close to home within our church and school family.
