Bishop Terry Kee, leader of the Lutheran Church in Singapore (LCS), has been in Australia for several weeks, travelling and interacting with church leaders and congregations.

He was taking a one-month sabbatical, which he described as ‘too short for study, too long to do nothing’. So he chose to come to Australia.

‘We are partners in mission – mutual partners’, Bishop Kee said. ‘I want to enhance the partnership by learning from congregations in Australia, learning how they are dealing with or struggling with challenges.

‘This helps to enrich my perspective and also theirs. We share mutual challenges, and so we can encourage each other and learn from each other’, he said.

Beginning in Adelaide, Bishop Kee met with LCA national leaders and SA/NT District leaders, and spoke with several congregations, including some who are already partnering with LCS mission activities in Cambodia.

While in Australia he planned to meet with the LCA’s Chinese pastors and discuss the sharing of resources and mutual strengthening of each other’s ministries.

Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne and Alice Springs were also on Bishop Kee’s itinerary, which saw him preaching or speaking up to three times a day before returning to Adelaide prior to departure on 29 June.

The LCS is a relatively new church but very active in mission, reaching out to spread the gospel and coordinating mission partnerships in Thailand, Mongolia, Cambodia and China. Bishop Kee travels extensively throughout Asia, encouraging Lutheran churches and building relationships.
