The LCA’s friends in the Lutheran Church in Cambodia are smiling, for a very good reason. Australian and New Zealand Lutherans have donated more than $230,000 towards the $500,000 purchase price of a prime piece of real estate, which will allow the church’s mission to grow.

Located right next door to the Lutheran church and its Rainbow Hostel in Phnom Penh, the block represents an opportunity for the Cambodian Lutherans to develop a pre-school and facilities for theological training for church workers.

Rev Neville Otto explains the enormous potential of the planned development: ‘This can be a place where the pastors, lay leaders and students can come to study the Bible, so they can be equipped as missionaries in their own land. Children from this poor community can receive an education here, and learn music and computer skills, all the while coming to know the love of Jesus.

It can be a place for not only building the new Christian church in Cambodia, but also for reaching out with the love of God to these wonderful people who have suffered, and still suffer, so very much.

On behalf of our sisters and brothers partnering with us in Cambodia, we say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped to take this mission dream one huge step closer to becoming a reality.

The support of its international partners in the gospel – including the LCA, LCNZ and Lutheran Church in Singapore – frees the first-generation church in Cambodia to focus on the spiritual and physical work that is ahead of them, rather than worrying about repaying a big debt.
