Om Khom (Aunty Khom) is an elderly lady living alone. Her right eye was hurt by a bullet during the Khmer Rouge regime and her left eye was unable to open unless she pries it open whenever she needs to see. As such she is not able to work in the field and, with advancing age, she is dependent on neighbours and friends. The little shed she is currently staying in is also on the land of someone who is not related to her.

She heard the Gospel at Life Centre and eventually put her trust in God and was baptised in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in 2012. Despite her condition, Om Khom has been living each day with thankfulness in her heart. Thankfulness because God preserved her life during the war and spared her from a total loss of vision. He provides her with two meals a day through Life Centre, she said, ‘I have experienced fully the great love of God in my life!’

Om Khom has been faithful in coming to church and attending the women’s weekly Bible Study. About two months ago during Sunday service, the pastors prayed for Om Khom and several others with physical ailments. After service, while Om Khom was trying to pry open her left eye to practice a song with other choir members, another elderly member put her spectacles on her and said it may help her to see better. To everyone’s amazement, Om Khom’s left eye was opened and she could see without having to pry it with her fingers!
